When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
Miranda and Sal have been best friends for years, but when Sal gets punched in the stomach for seemingly no reason, strange things happen. Sal starts ignoring Miranda, Miranda’s moms emergency key is stolen, and strange notes start appearing. As Miranda gets the notes, she slowly realizes that the writer of the notes knows all about her, and even knows things that haven’t happened yet.
I recommend this book for, well, anyone. It’s a great book for people who enjoy A Wrinkle In Time, or just about any other time travel story. It’s a science fiction novel that isn’t too science-fictiony (Yes, I just made up that word). I think anyone in middle school would enjoy this book.

Every Soul a Star by Wendy Mass
This book is told from three different perspectives: Ally- An astronomy lover who likes her home in Moon Shadow campground, and refuses to move away from it. Bree- Popular and pretty, she would rather not move to Moon Shadow and leave behind all her friends, And Jack- A misfit who came to the campground to watch the solar eclipse, and makes 2 surprising friends.
I liked this story. I’d definitely recommend this book for middle school students. It’s the type of book you’d either read and love, or read and totally despise it with all your heart, but it’s worth reading.

City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
The city of Ember, an underground town dependent on the electricity of their generator, was built to be home for many after the end of the world, at least for 200 years. 200+ years later as the generators failing, Lina and her friend Doon find part of an old message. They’re sure when they decipher it, it will save the city!
City of Ember! If you haven’t read this already, you should. If you have, read the sequels, now. This is a good science fiction story about a futuristic city underground, and their escape to the world above. I recommend it to people who like those post apocolyptic science fiction stories.

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
Jesse Aarons loves to run. He runs races at school with the other guys. He runs in the field, scaring the crap out of his family’s cow. One day, he meets a new neighbor, Leslie. He doesn’t think much of her, until one day at school she joins the races the guys have. She and Jesse become friends, and they create a make believe world called Terabithia.
This book is really good, but it’s sad. I know it doesn’t sound sad, but it is. If you like happy endings, I don’t think you’ll like this book very much. Nevertheless, it’s a great story that’s worth reading many times.

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
This is the story of Stargirl, as told from the point of view of Leo, a sixteen year old at Mica High School. Stargirl is new. Stargirl has a pet rat. She plays ukulele. She leaves people cards at their doors and desks, and she knows everyone’s birthday. She is friendly, but has no friends of her own. When she joins cheerleading, she cheers for every basket, regardless of which team made it. Everyone is fascinated, especially Leo, who falls in love with her.
I really liked this book. It’s a great book about individuality. Stargirl herself is such an interesting character. You either love her or you hate her.
