Finding Someone by Joseph Monninger
Hattie and Delores are “women going west.” They keep telling themselves that they stole away in the night to save a horse, Speed, from being put down. On the way, they find out more about themselves and why they left.
This book made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me want to run up to my best friend and hug her tightly. I just loved this book. I’m going to read it again and again until the pages start to fall out. If you love horses then you’ll love this book.
Ruby Key by Holly Lisle
Genna and Dan’s town is in a shaky balance with the Nightlings, creatures not quite like humans. No human ever goes into the forest at night, this is a Nightling time. When Genna and Dan desperately try to find a way to save their mother, who is sick, by gathering magical sap from the trees at night even though this is said to be the Nightling’s in the treaty signed years ago. If they save their mother then the evil Banris will stop trying to marry her while she is in a daze from her sickness. The Nightlings catch them and bring them to their homeland. When they are there, they bargain for their freedom and their mothers health with the cruel king of the Nightlings who would like nothing more than to see them fail. Yarri, a Nightling slave, helps them, but only if they ask for the mythical “Ruby Key” which will save the Nightling slaves from the King’s oppressive reign. She also tells them about how Banris has made a bargain with the Nightling king for immortality. The price is the death of all his children as well as purple silk, which the Nightlings can’t make, and a lot of sap collected in the daytime. The only thing is, he doesn’t have any, so he was trying to marry Ganna and Dan’s mom so he could kill them! They set out on a quest to find Doyoti, the mythical person who has the Ruby Key to set the Nightlings free. If they don’t succeed, their entire town will suffer, and they, and Yarri, will die by the king’s hand.
Intriguing, enthralling, a must read. It’s impossible to write a summary that does it justice, but I did my best.

The Castle Corona by Sharon Creech
This is from the inside cover of “The Castle Corona.” There truly is no better way to describe it.
“There was a castle. But not just any castle. This was a castle that glittered and sparkled and rose majestically above the banks of the winding Winono River: the Castle Corona.
And in this castle lived a family. But not just any family. This was the family of King Guido: rich and royal and . . . spoiled. And King Guido was so spoiled that neither jewels nor gold nor splendid finery could please him, for what he longed for most was . . . a nap and a gown that didn’t itch.
Far below this grand, glittering castle lived two peasants. But not just any peasants. These peasanst, though poor and pitiful, were plucky and proud. And in possession of a stolen pouch. But not just any pouch. A pouch whose very contents had the power to unlock secrets and transform lives . . .”

Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper
Eleven year old Melody has cerebral palsy. She can’t walk, her body sometimes moves on its own, she can’t talk, and she can’t write. She also has a photographic memory, she remembers every word ever spoken around her, every place she’s ever been, anything she has been around ever in crystal clear detail. But she can’t tell anyone that, so she’s stuck in an extra special learning center where they go over the alphabet every day. She has a board of words, like yes, no, maybe, mom, I’m hungry but that’s just not enough to say all she wants to. She gets assigned an aide who becomes one of her very best friends, but she still can’t talk. Then, something magical happens…she gets an electronic device that has room for more words than she can think of! She can finally talk and show everyone how smart she really is. She joins the math team, everything is going great! But her new friends and math-letes get jealous…
I really loved this book. It made me grateful that I have the ability to write this review and do everything I take for granted. It was written beautifully and I really love all the characters. I will read it over and over again. Everyone should read this book. That means you, go. Go check this book out from your library, or better yet, buy it. Go on, stop reading this. How much prodding do you need? Go! Leave! Come back later, but go get this book!

Between The Sea And Sky by Jaclyn Dolamore
Between The Sea And Sky is about Esmerine, a mermaid, coming to the surface world in search of her sister, Dosia. On the way she reunites with Alander, an old friend and a winged person. He helps her try to find her sister but on the way they discover something else.
I found this book repeats itself a little too much, too often. It reminds you of something previously said even though I remembered. Not only that, it uses the exact same words to do so. I wouldn’t mind it so much if it was different. Despite I really liked the storyline. I can understand the characters feelings really well.

Facebook brings Josh and Emma together and they discover that everything they do causes a ripple effect in the future. Knowing their future, their lives are changed. This book tells about a drama in high school and it really feels like it’s something that would really happen. I love how it switches from character to character and it shows both thoughts. It is interesting, a definite page turner.

The Will of the Empress by Tamora Pierce
Sandry, Briar, Daja, and Tris are foster brothers and sisters with amazing magical powers. They earned their medallions, signifying their mastery of each of their magics, at age thirteen, earlier than any mage has ever gotten one. Sandry is a stitch witch; she has control over anything cloth. Briar is a garden mage; he has control over plants. Daja is a smith mage; she can control metal and heat, and create living metal. Tris is a weather mage, able to control the weather, and a scry, able to hear and see things on the wind. The four of them are connected together by a bond that allows them to mind-speak, but after journeying all around the world, everyone’s minds are closed, except for Sandry’s.
Sandry has a large amount of land in Namorn, a country neighbor to her own. When her cousin Berenene, the Namornese empress, asks her to pay a visit, it isn’t like she can refuse. The four of them go to Namorn, where Berenene tries to entice Sandry with life at court. Berenene doesn’t want Sandry to leave, she wants her to stay and marry a Namornese man who would then control her land and her money. The will of the empress is unbreakable, everyone says she will get what she wants. Berenene offers each of them their wildest dreams, and Berenene won’t take no for an answer. But there’s something not quite right going on around here…
Tamora Pierce has done it again with this amazing book. No excuse is good enough to stop reading it. I stayed up until 11:00pm last night reading and thinking, “Just until the next chapter…I’ll just read a few more pages…I’m almost done, just a little more…” There are no flaws in this book.

Clean by Amy Reed
Five teenagers in rehab for a month. Eva: the Goth, drug of choice: pot/painkillers; Jason: the tough guy, drug of choice: alcohol; Christopher: the goody-two-shoes, drug of choice: meth/cocaine; Kelly: the IT girl, drug of choice: alcohol/ cocaine; Olivia: the new girl, drug of choice: diet pills. There here together, talking about a past they don’t want to remember, with people they don’t know, and their families far away.
I really liked this book. The characters developed and matured really nicely. At first I was kind of wary about this book, I was scared it would be too intense. Once I started though, I just couldn’t put it down. It was simply…riveting.

She teaches them all the “glad game.” In the “glad game” you find something you can be glad about in every situation. Soon the entire town is playing and everyone loves Pollyanna.
This book is classic. I absolutely love it and I will continue to read my battered copy until the words are no longer legible. Every girl should read this.

Wings, Spells, and Illusions by Aprilynne Pike
Book one
Wings- Laurel is just getting used to life at her new house in a new city, going to school instead of being homeschooled like she has been all her life, and making new friends, when a giant flower starts to grow out of her back. She confides in David, her first friend and her first crush, and together they get Laurel through this confusing time. When she goes to visit her old house, still owned by her parents, and walks into the woods in her back yard, she meets Tamani, a faerie sentry who tells her what she really is, a faerie, like him except she is a fall faerie, the second most powerful and rare. She also finds out a gate to Avalon, the faerie world, sits on that very property and the trolls, who are enemies of the faerie, are the people offering to buy the land from her family she must prevent it by any means necessary. On top of that, she has to choose between David and Tamani, who both love her intensely.
Book two
Spells-The story continues in spells when Laurel finally gets to go into Avalon. She is summoned to take classes so she can find out what a fall faerie really does and start to learn how to do it. When she returns she has a bit of off time before the trolls kidnap her best friend, Chelsea, and all their lives are saved by Klea, a troll hunting mysterious woman who constantly watches them after the incident.
Book three
Illusions-When Klea introduces them to a wildflower, a faerie who is in the human world and doesn’t know what she is, and Tamani enrolls in Laurels school things get complicated. Laurel is sick of David and Tamani’s fighting, so will leave David? Laurel has a gut feeling not to trust Klea so Laurel, Tamani, David, and Chelsea try to befriend the wildflower and find out what’s going on. What they discover is bigger than they could ever imagine.
An epic tale of faerie’s that are unlike any I have ever heard about before. This book will make you rethink everything you know about fae. I was enthralled and couldn’t stop reading. Anyone who likes fantasy will definitely love these books.
